Will The Real Better Than Sniffers Please Stand Up?
Part 16 ~ 6 August 2025
Played: 29 March 2025
Soooo I was watching Minecraft Youtube last night¹, as I often do, when I was hit with a thumbnail about a modpack called... Better than Sniffers. Well shoot. Guess there's no such thing as an original idea around here, huh? I suppose it was bound to happen, considering the popularity of Better than Wolves, and the fact that... well, let's be real, most things are better than sniffers lmao. For what it's worth, this mod is something of a spiritual successor to BtW; it's one of those Youtuber difficulty mods where you have to collect rocks and grass before you can cut down a tree. As for where this leaves me? Well, I probably need a new name for this world. "Better than Bundles" is taken too. I'm gonna have to be a wee bit more creative!
ANYWAY, back to the game. Today's a chill day of building at the base. I've designated this spot across the river to the east for an agricultural district, to consist of basic crop farms. I don't actually need to farm more crops², but it's a nice way to put them on display and it's something that every village should have. That means it's time for some Cozy Gaming™! Here's our "farming sim" task list: trim back the forest, level the terrain, dig trenches, build borders, water, till, light, bonemeal for a few extra seeds, and plant everything out. It was a simple and relaxing session, much needed as I was feeling a bit under the weather.

After that, I decided to expand my sheep farm to fill out the remaining colours of wool: green, cyan, lime, and (idk how I missed this, I spent A WHOLE SESSION trekking through the jungle) brown. The first two of those can only be gotten with cactus, which means a trip to the desert. (Now I think of it, the badlands works too. I picked up more sand too, so whatever.) Where's the nearest desert? 2000 east. To the skies! After more than 1km of jungle, the desert finally reveals itself, along with two friendly villages. A quick dash to grab all the spiky plants I need by sunset, lest these hapless folks get stomped by zombies... Aaand we're done here!

Back to base for a quick cat nap, then southwest to the coral ocean. It's just past the second ocean temple, in front of the mesa mountain. Check out that cave spider bridge on the coast! I explored the natural wonder for the rest of the day, grabbing a bunch of sea pickles, and using my silk touch pick to grab the purple coral items. Only purple, nothing else :D The blocks are nice because they let me grow more sea pickles. The coral fans are nice because they let me break the game >:) The coral pieces are just for decoration.

Quick refresher on dye! Smelt cactus for green. Smelt sea pickle for lime. Green + white also gives lime. Green + blue = teal. Got it? Good. Ok, let's build sheep farm #2.5 – and also redye two of the existing purple sheep to brown which I totally could have done when I first built the farm lol. Bing bang boom – don't tell anyone I left the redstone as a cross and had to break out all the sheep and change it to a dot – aaand we have every colour of sheep in the farm!

- On the "date played" timeline. So, 28 March.
- Except wheat, which I will need far more of than this farm will provide and I will be exploiting redstone to get in bulk :)
